Bridal Jewelry Styles: Choosing Jewelry for Your Wedding Day

You have said yes to the dress…now it is time to choose your wedding jewelry. Your engagement ring and wedding band are decided, but when choosing jewelry for your wedding day, the jewelry should be special to you and pull your entire bridal look together. To help you find the perfect look, let’s examine bridal jewelry styles and what jewelry complements each style the best.

A Traditional Bride

If your wedding gown inspiration comes from bridal icons like Kate Middleton, Audrey Hepburn, or Princess Diana, your style may fall into the traditional and classic bridal style. These wedding gowns are elegant and stunning with a style that is timeless. Your bridal jewelry follows suit. Pearl jewelry adds a classic sophisticated touch to your wedding attire. Round pearl earrings accent all face shapes. Diamond studs are also a timeless classic and many brides choose one or more diamond tennis bracelets to polish the loo. A traditional bride may choose a pearl, diamond, or combination of both on a gorgeous bridal comb in their hair. Bridal combs are often worn if the bride chooses to forego a veil.

A Modern Bride

A modern bridal style is one that forges her own path. While traditions of the wedding day may be important to her, she is not interested in the more traditional wedding dress styles. She walks on her own walk and wants her jewelry to reflect that.  Her dress (or pants!) carries an elegant minimalist vibe and she flaunts it with a quiet strength. Elegant hoop earrings add to the contemporary sophistication of the modern bridal jewelry style. Diamond hoop earrings add a little more sparkle. If earrings are the jewelry focal point, you may choose larger hoops with elegant gemstone pendants. Pearls are also a popular choice for modern bridal jewelry but not in the traditional sense of a classic strand of pearls or pearl studs. Baroque jewelry with pearls and gemstones adds a sense of flair and drama to their wedding day attire.

A Romantic Bride

The Romantic bridal style is delicate and flowing. It nods to the sentimentality and memories of her history and ancestry. Floral-inspired jewelry is a wonderful choice but this bride treasures heirloom jewelry and engraved jewelry. It is both the beauty of the jewelry but also the meaning behind it. Many brides choose to have the jewelry they wear engraved with their wedding date or a special message shared between them and their groom.

Old World Inspired jewelry and vintage cut diamonds or other gemstones are essential to polishing the romantic bridal jewelry style. Keep accessories simple and choose a jewelry focal point that is special to you. Whether it is an elegant pair of earrings that remind you of your mother or grandmother on her wedding day, or an engraved locket carrying a special message, romantic bridal jewelry carries a special meaning that makes your day even more memorable.

A Glamorous Bride

A glamorous bride highlights beauty and grace on her day. Her look nods to vintage Hollywood but with a modern twist. Her gown may feature lace or intricate embellishments and is full of style. Her bridal jewelry style is the same. Large statement earrings give a dramatic flair for a glamorous bride. Sparkling diamonds in larger carat sizes or diamond cuts that emphasize size give stunning glam appeal. Pearls are often part of a glamorous bridal look but have a strong presence. A diamond-encrusted tiara paired with smaller teardrop diamond earrings gives the bride the utmost sparkle on her big day.

A Boho Bride

A Boho bridal style is artistic and free and simply beautiful. Taking cues from nature, you will see many floral-inspired details both in the gown and the jewelry. While some boho brides choose a floral headpiece of real flowers, many are choosing floral-inspired jewelry to wear in their hair instead. Diamonds and pearls placed in a floral pattern keep the boho nod to nature but add the romantic elegance of gemstones.

Boho bride jewelry also includes the mixing of metals. You will often see them adorned in rose gold, yellow gold, and white gold or platinum. The mixing of metals can be found in layered necklaces and bracelets.

An Edgy, Non-Traditional Bride

Wild, fun, flirtatious, and carefree are all words that describe an edgy, non-traditional bridal style. She marches to the beat of her own drum and loves every second of it. Her dress will be stunning and may break all the “rules” at the same time! Edgy and non-traditional bridal jewelry styles are the same.

Of all the bridal jewelry styles, a non-traditional bridal jewelry style has the most range. You may choose to accent your wonderful and wild wedding gown with a sophisticated choker especially if your dress has a lower neckline. Nontraditional brides will often accessorize with a statement right-hand ring (cocktail ring) that really shows off their personal style. While diamonds may be a part of your bridal jewelry, any colored gemstone is also an option. Your wild and free nature allows you to effortlessly incorporate rubies, sapphires, emeralds, amethysts, and any other gemstone to coordinate your look.
